Longtime Santa Cruz County Court Commissioner Stephen Siegel was sworn in as Santa Cruz County's newest Superior Court Judge at an investiture ceremony this afternoon packed with judges, lawyers, elected officials, law enforcement, city and county officials and community members. Presiding Judge John Salazar opened the investiture ceremony, followed by remarks from Superior Court Judge Tim Volkmann and Public Defender and a longtime friend of Judge Siegel, Attorney Jerry Christiensen. Judge Heather Morse administered the oath of office to Judge Siegel, who donned a robe worn by the late Judge Kathleen Akao.
Judge Siegel has served as a Court Commissioner since 2000. Prior to that, he served our county since 1985 as a Deputy Public Defender for the law firm of Biggam, Christiensen and Minsloff. Judge Siegel brings a wealth of experience to the judiciary and will be a welcomed addition to the Santa Cruz County Bench. The Santa Cruz Police Department would like to extend a heartfelt congratulations to Judge Siegel in his new role as Judge of the Santa Cruz County Superior Court.
