New Surplus Bicycle Distribution Program Underway with Santa Cruz Police and Teen Center

Our new bicycle distribution program is underway.  In collaboration with Parks & Recreation and the Santa Cruz Teen Center, surplus bicycles in police storage are given to youths who have a need for two-wheeled transportation.

This is a great program to ensure the bicycles are legitimately serving the youths of Santa Cruz through a program managed by the Teen Center staff.   This program also helps us ensure the bicycles are properly registered and don’t end up on the street or back in our property storage.

If you know a youth in need of a reliable bicycle, have them contact the Teen Center and register for a new bike.  You can also email them at

Congratulations to our first recipients of this new program!  We hope you put many happy miles on your gently used bicycles.

The Santa Cruz Teen Center is holding a great benefit (CruzaPalooza) where the grand prize will be a Les Paul guitar signed by James Durbin! (See photo below). The Teen Center plays an essential role in keeping our kids safe - in fact, our department has routed asset forfeiture funds to the Teen Center to help keep it open during these difficult budget times. The role that the Teen Center and the Parks and Recreation Department play in public safety cannot be understated. Please consider attending this event. Want more information?
