This past Monday, the Santa Cruz Police Department graduated our latest Spanish Language Citizens Police Academy class. The class of 24 community members was provided an opportunity to be exposed to the work, and more importantly the people of our organization. The ten week academy met once a week for two hours and included basic instruction on items such as, Gang Awareness, Narcotics, K-9, Traffic Enforcement, Firearms, Emergency Vehicle Operation, Crime Scene Investigation, and legal discussion about the Judicial System. Each of the participants spoke highly of their experience throughout the program and expressed a sincere desire for additional opportunities to get involved in what we do here. Several class members made comments that reflected the professionalism and incredible amount of work accomplished by the SCPD and stated they would continue to advocate and encourage other community members to get involved in these types of programs. Congratulations to the graduates!
