The Santa Cruz Police Department is pleased to
announce the promotion of Warren Barry to Police Lieutenant. Lieutenant Barry began his career at the
Santa Cruz Police Department as a Reserve Officer in 1990. He was hired
as a non-sworn Community Service Officer in 1992. In 1993, he was hired as a Police Officer. He
holds a degree in Business Management.

Lieutenant Barry has worked a variety of assignments throughout his career. The assignments included Patrol Officer, Downtown Unit, Field Training Officer, and he was the first School Resource Officer assigned to Harbor High School. He worked as canine handler with his partner “Dani”. Lieutenant Barry has also worked as a Juvenile and Person Crimes Detective.

During Lieutenant Barry’s tenure as a Sergeant, he worked as a patrol supervisor, Professional Standards investigator, and is currently supervising the Canine program. As a Sergeant, Lieutenant Barry was instrumental in the formation of the collaborative Parks Unit which included Police and Parks & Rec staff.
Lieutenant Barry will be assigned to the Operations Division as a Watch Commander. In addition to other management oversight, he will assume overall management responsibility for one of 5 geographic beats in the city.
Lieutenant Barry lives in Santa Cruz County with his wife and two teenage children.
