On Friday, August 31, 2018, in the intersection of Bay St and King St, in the City of Santa Cruz, an unknown suspect approached a 14-year-old female in his vehicle while the victim was walking home from school. The suspect told the victim to get inside his car and motioned to her to get in. The victim walked away from the suspect. The suspect circled the block and asked the victim to get inside his vehicle again. The suspect continued to follow the juvenile to the 100 block of Kenneth St.
The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, 18-25, average height, with a slightly thicker build wearing a white t-shirt. The suspect possibly had a tattoo on his lower left arm. The suspect spoke in clear, unaccented English. An image of the suspect vehicle was captured from a nearby residence's security camera. The suspect vehicle appeared to be silver in the video image but was described by the victim as champagne colored. The suspect vehicle seems to be a four-door Nissan Altima.
Residents are urged to be on the lookout for this vehicle and to call 911 if they see any suspicious activity. SCPD encourages parents to caution their kids to be aware of their surroundings and to run if approached by a stranger.
Anyone with information relative to the suspect’s identity is encouraged to contact the Santa Cruz Police Department Investigations Unit (831) 420-5820.
