SCPD’s 1961 Chevy Biscayne Patrol Car Wins 1st Place

Santa Cruz Police Department showed off our vintage patrol car a 1961 Chevy Biscayne at The Menlo Park and Ripon Police Departments 25th Anniversary Emergency Vehicle Display Show 2015.
SCPD’s 1961 Chevy Biscayne patrol car still has what it takes to win!
Officer Gallegos was proud to bring home two 1st place awards. 1st place Best Novelty Police Vehicle 1900- 1964 AND 1st place Police Chief’s Choice.

While most vintage cars came to the show on trailers, SCPD’s 1961 Chevy Biscayne rolled into Ripon, CA on its own power from Santa Cruz.

Officer Gallegos drove the car over 200 miles to Ripon, Ca and back to Santa Cruz. “Our 61 Chevy cruised over Pacheco Pass with no problems. This car is in excellent condition.”

We would like to give TWO special shout-outs of thanks! Thank you, Vincent Gallegos for detailing our beloved Chevy and getting it show ready. And, thank you to the group of volunteers from Hot Rods at the Beach who restored SCPD’s Chevy Biscayne.

1st place Best Novelty Police Vehicle 1900- 1964

Well done!

A Great Afternoon with Oak Tree Villa

Here’s the best news of the month for us here at the Santa Cruz Police Department.

A few weeks ago, the amazing seniors at Oak Tree Villa in Scotts Valley got together and held a yard sale.  They raised $1,500.  They called on Monday and wanted to meet with us to donate the money to the families of Sergeant Butch Baker and Detective Elizabeth Butler.

Chief Kevin Vogel, Deputy Chief Steve Clark and Officer Joe Hernandez drove out to meet the group in our 1961 Chevy Biscayne classic police car.  They literally rolled out a red carpet for us as we drove in.

What a great afternoon we spent with these fine men and women.  We stayed and chatted with everyone and took photos with the big presentation check.

Deputy Chief Clark even toured several of them a ride around the lot in the classic police car, while Chief Vogel escorted them in and out of the car.  WHAT A BLAST!!!!

We are very honored by this generous gift.  We were also honored to spend time with amazing seniors and learn a little bit of their story.  We so enjoyed our time at Oak Tree Villa.  It was the best part of the month for us…..maybe even the last 6 months.

If you have some time to give….our recommendation is that you get to know the seniors in our community, they are great people with great stories!

Thank You Oak Tree Villa

Chevrolet of Watsonville Car Show Nets $4,400 for Baker and Butler Families

The 6th Annual Custom Car Show sponsored by Chevrolet of Watsonville raised $4,400 for the families of Sergeant Butch Baker and Detective Elizabeth Butler.

The car show was held on July 6th and featured a full day of fun, food, entertainment and of course, some amazing cars.  Santa Cruz Police Department even showed off our vintage patrol car a 1961 Chevy Biscayne.

On Monday July 22nd we met up with Chevrolet of Watsonville Owner and General Manager Melvin Cooper and Service Director Steve Wilburn to receive the check.  Of course, we rolled up in our Chevy Tahoe command vehicle.

Special Thanks to Melvin Cooper and the rest of the Cooper family, and Steve Wilburn for their generous donation and work on this event.
